Who runs the festival?

As a charity, Holmfirth Arts Festival has a board of trustees and this board is responsible for the governance of the festival. The board approves budgets, ensures the company trades responsibly, and sets the overall strategic direction of the festival. The board also appoints and manages the festival director, whose job it is to lead the festival's activities on a day to day basis.

The board of trustees is unpaid and each member contributes time each month by attending board meetings, working on subcommittees, and other work required to ensure the sound governance of the company. As in all small charities, the trustees have to roll their sleeves up and get involved in all sorts of areas; most work takes place between the board meetings.

The Festival Committee

Holmfirth Arts Festival Committee is a group of diverse but committed people who are responsible for researching and contacting various performers and then working in conjunction with the Festival Director regarding artistic programming. It meets on a regular basis as the festival is being planned and involves a good deal of laughter and fun alongside hard work on the various agreed responsibilities. During the actual festival the committee is responsible for much of the hands-on delivery of events - the production and marketing - as well as acting as welcomers, front-of-house staff, bar and refreshment organisers, and chair carriers, etc. The committee is supported in this by an invaluable group of festival volunteers. For more information about volunteering, see here.
